Child Safety

How we keep children safe on Circle

Circle was built from the ground up to be a safe place for children. Every design decision — from how content gets on the platform to how children interact with it — prioritizes child safety. Here's how.

No algorithm, no autoplay

Circle does not use recommendation algorithms. Children are never shown content their parent hasn't explicitly approved through a creator subscription. There is no autoplay, no "up next" queue, and no infinite scroll. When a video ends, it ends.

This means children see only what their parents choose — nothing more. There are no surprise recommendations, trending feeds, or engagement-driven suggestions.

Human-reviewed content only

Every piece of content on Circle is reviewed by our team before it becomes available. Creators submit videos through an approval process, and nothing goes live without a human review. We check for:

  • Age-appropriateness of language, imagery, and subject matter
  • Educational value and accuracy
  • Compliance with our content standards
  • Absence of advertising, product placement, or commercial messaging
  • Absence of violence, fear-based content, or inappropriate themes

Content that does not meet our standards is rejected and cannot be published on the platform.

No advertising, ever

Circle is entirely subscription-funded. There are no ads — not before videos, not between videos, not anywhere in the children's experience. We do not use advertising SDKs, tracking pixels, or behavioral profiling. Children are never the product.

No social features for children

Children on Circle cannot:

  • Comment on videos or communicate with other users
  • Create public profiles or share personal information
  • Send or receive messages of any kind
  • Access links that navigate outside the Circle platform
  • Search the open internet or access external content

The children's experience is a closed, curated environment. There is no user-generated content visible to children beyond what creators publish through the review process.

Parent controls

Parents have full control over their children's experience on Circle:

  • Creator subscriptions: Parents choose which creators their children can watch. No subscriptions means no content.
  • Per-video access: Parents can grant or revoke access to individual videos within each subscribed channel.
  • Daily screen time limits: Set a daily viewing limit per child. When time is up, Circle stops playback and shows a gentle "time's up" screen.
  • Watch history: Parents can see exactly what each child watched, when, and for how long.
  • PIN protection: Each child profile is protected by a parent-set PIN, so children can't access parent settings or switch profiles.
  • Profile management: Parents can edit, pause, or delete child profiles at any time.

Creator vetting

Creators on Circle go through an application and review process before they can publish content. We verify:

  • Identity and background information
  • Educational qualifications or relevant expertise
  • Content samples for quality and appropriateness
  • Agreement to our creator standards and content guidelines

Creators who violate our standards are removed from the platform. We take reports seriously — if you see something concerning, email hello@circletv.co immediately.

Data minimization

We collect only what we need to make Circle work. For children, that means:

  • First name and age (entered by parent, used for display only)
  • Avatar selection (emoji and color)
  • A hashed PIN (we never store the actual PIN)
  • Watch history (visible only to parents, retained 12 months)

We do not collect last names, email addresses, phone numbers, geolocation, photos, or behavioral data from children. See our Privacy Policy and COPPA Compliance page for full details.

Designed for young viewers

The children's interface is designed with young users in mind:

  • Large, clear navigation with minimal text
  • No external links or navigation outside the platform
  • No purchase prompts or upsells in the children's experience
  • Gentle "time's up" transitions instead of abrupt cutoffs
  • No dark patterns, pop-ups, or manipulative UI
